Their best problem solving and team work by University of Minnesota Teams; earns them first place.
Solar: On June 5, 2009 the University of Minnesota Solar Vehicle Project (UMNSVP) team came away with a decisive first-place finish in the Formula Sun Grand Prix.
The solar vehicle team is a talented group of undergraduate engineering students who undertake the project of researching, designing, and constructing a solar vehicle every two years. This project endeavors to teach aspects of engineering that are beyond the curriculum. The team members' experiences add to the many strengths of the University education.
Aero: What is the SAE aero heavy lift competition? This competitive event is held on an annual basis. National and International colleges build lightweight remote controlled model aircraft. The small aircraft must lift as heavy a weight as possible and complete one flight around the course. The event is divided into two classes: regular class (larger) and micro class (much smaller) model airplanes. The micro competition is new and the University has placed first for two years in a row. The Aerospace Engineering department is planning to continue this tradition for the third year of competition. As we well know, technical projects yield challenges and rewards. This project is entirely run by students, thus preparing them to accept the many challenges of their profession. Additionally, it is a part of their Senior Design Course.
Note: Tours of the project Lab areas in building adjacent to the Classroom Office Building (Engineering & Fisheries Lab) to follow presentations. Important: Please remember to park in the Gortner Avenue Ramp and exit through the back of the ramp, ground level, head to the south west corner of Classroom Office Building, Room B35.
