OnStar - GM's Vehicle Telematics System
Presented by:

OnStar Adv. Systems Development
OnStar - History and Background
  • Evolution of Services, Technology, and Brand
  • Consumer Demand for Vehicular Telematics Services
OnStar - The Role of Technology - Here is quick description of several OnStar Key Services:

OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics Email - OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics is the first automatic diagnostic systems check and monthly report service. With activation, OnStar will collect diagnostic information about your vehicle's key operating system about every 30 days while you drive. After each data collection, you'll receive a report and any scheduled maintenance alerts by email.

Turn By Turn Navigation - This system is fully integrated with your vehicle and your OnStar services. It's a navigation at the touch of a button. With its one button push operation, OnStar Turn-by-Turn navigation is the simplest navigation system. The enhanced GPS system guides you turn-by-turn to your destination - whether it's the nearest fueling station or the best place for lunch - and automatically helps you get back on track if you make a wrong turn. Plus, OnStar is constantly updating its point-of-interest database so you don't have to update your system with new CDs or DVDs.

Advanced Automatic Crash Notification - The GM advanced automatic crash notification (AACN) system uses front, rear, and side sensors as well as the sensing capabilities of the Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) itself. The accelerometer located within the SDM measures the crash severity. In the event of a moderate to a severe frontal or side-impact crash, data is transmitted from the affected sensors to the SDM. The SDM sensor also can identify a rear impact of sufficient severity. Regardless of whether the air bags deploy, the SDM transmits crash information to the vehicle's OnStar module.
